What extracurricular activities have you been involved in during high school?
South Rowan Football, Basketball & Competition Cheer
FFA
Student Council
National Honor Society & National Technical Honor Society
Crosby Scholars
What are your plans after graduation?
I plan to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and major in biology, with a minor in education, to eventually become a high school teacher.
Where do you imagine yourself 10 years from now?
In 10 years, I imagine myself being settled and working at a high school. I would also love to be involved with the cheer program or student government in some way so I can connect with students outside of the classroom. I see myself living in China Grove, maybe even on the same property I live on now, spending my free time doing whatever kind of workout is trending 10 years from now and hanging out with my family. Hopefully, I will have found my husband by then (haha) and be happily married. Depending on what God has in store for me, I would love to have a little girl who is starting the parent and tot class so I can spend some time back at ECC. I hope to build a happy life where I am making a difference in my career and enjoying time with my family.
Finish the sentence- I cannot live with out…
…Jesus & sweet tea!!
What is one memory that you will remember forever about your time at ECC?
One memory I will remember forever from my time at ECC is when we went on the senior trip to Gatlinburg. I don’t think I will ever be able to forget staying up late, giggling with the coaches and my teammates, and feeding the bears (IYKYK), or playing “the cup game”! I made so many memories that weekend and had so much fun with my best friends and coaches.
What will you miss the most about ECC?
What I will miss most about ECC is getting to spend so much of my time with people I love so much and learning from my coaches! I will miss all of our totally random conversations and story times with the coaches during practice that can range from someone’s crazy experience at school that day to a hilarious story about Sara’s crazy driving on the way to a competition years ago. I am going to miss getting to hang out with the girls I have been blessed enough to grow up with through cheer. You never know what we might end up laughing about, but I always know we will end up laughing. I’m really not sure how I am going to make it through each week without hearing Sara and Lauren’s funny comments. I am going to miss the place that has been my second home and family for so many years, but I plan to come back and visit whenever I can!
What is the strangest advice your parents ever gave you that proved to be correct?
Some random advice my parents gave me is to always wave and say hi to someone younger than me in the hallway. A lot of my best friendships started from just a wave and smile in the hallway, and I’m really thankful for that advice because it helped me meet some amazing people.
What advice do you have for the younger athletes in our program?
My advice is to be coachable. Be able to hear criticism and realize that it’s only being given because the people giving it truly care about you and want you to be the best version of yourself. Learning to apply criticism instead of getting annoyed or offended is a skill I’ve learned at ECC, and it has helped me grow so much. It has created amazing relationships between my coaches, teammates, and me that I will cherish forever, and it has truly made me love every second of being a cheerleader.
